Fridays at 7:30pm
The People’s Mission Silver Band is one of the longest running auxiliaries in church. The Silver Band performs throughout the year across the North East for concerts, carol services and also leading the hymns in our own Sunday services. Of course, if you live locally to the People’s Mission you may be familiar with the Good Friday march of witness that the band leads every year – a march from the church down to the market place in South Shields along with several other churches in the area. Our weekly practices are held every Friday at 7:30 PM till 9:30 PM in the church hall. Visitors are always welcome to come along and ‘have a blow’.
It is not every church that can say they have a 28 strong Silver Band, nor a Band with a history of over 100 years! This is of course nothing to boast about but rather something we thank our Heavenly Father for as the Band continues to faithfully serve Him and the church.
The Band leads the worship at our key services throughout the year: Christmas, Easter and Remembrance Sunday. Beyond that, they fulfil many concerts both within and outside of the church, often raising funds for very worthy charities, both local and national.
Throughout the course of this last year, it has been extremely encouraging to evidence a great growth in numbers within the younger generation. As a result, a newly established Junior Band now meets on a Friday evening along with the Senior Band.
Music is a most beautiful and powerful gift from God and when men and women come together with a common purpose to offer it back to Him in praise and worship, it becomes all the more compelling.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord…preferably in time and in tune.
